Cyber crime is an issue that has been prevalent in this nation ever since the creation of the massive thing we like to call the Internet. The Internet has opened up so many things to all of its users: including online shopping, news, weather, email, online games, and just about anything! From this recent invention creating all of these new things for us, it seems like the Internet could be nothing but great for our society. To keep things like this from happening, make sure not to post any sort of personal information like an address or phone number on the Internet. Just with a phone number, a harasser can most likely obtain one’s address and even directions to their house. Cyber bullying comes hand in hand with cyber harassment. Cyber harassment is most commonly seen among children and teenagers, whether it’s through instant messaging or chat rooms. Once a threatening message has been sent, the bully is extremely likely to act out these threats in real life (Belsey).

Another form of cyber crime that is extremely ubiquitous throughout the world is hacking. Hacking is done in many forms. Whether it’s defacing a website, raising a false alarm, or stealing and/or editing files, it is something that needs to be stopped. Hackers use programs such as SATAN, which is a vulnerability scanner with the ability to seek out weaknesses in a system and assess its susceptibility to attack (Furnell 119).

Finally, the last most common occurrence of cyber crime is identity theft and credit card fraud. When purchasing items online, it becomes extremely easy for many people to get a hold of your credit card information and use it to purchase things for themselves.
