Workplace Harassment The workplace harassment is harmful for the psychological health of the employee; it could cause stress, even suicidal thoughts. Later, it will be mentioned the different types of harassment in the workplace and another examples of: harassment by racism, sexual harassment, harassment by disability, harassment plus discrimination, and others in the workplace. I will discuss how the people in the work could stop it, how to act in case of harassment and how to complain about it. One of the most common harassment is the sexual harassment; it can be for gender, the thinking of superiority in front of the other because of the gender. Sexual harassment could be if a manager asks an employee for sex in exchange of a raise (Scott, 2016). Even comments about sexual themes or unwelcome touching are illegal. If the aggressor is very violent it could be another kind of harassment. The violence in the work could be classified as harassment. If a person is constantly verbally or physically assaulting another employee, in a severe form, is considered harassment. Verbally may be threats, profanity or insults; physically could be blows, or confrontations. No matter the situation if the act is constant and the employee feels unsafe and threatened, the person has to report the case as harassment (Scott, 2016). The manager of the workplace is responsible of these cases and has to be notified before the case becomes worst. It is a responsibility, and also very important of each employee to know their rights as a worker, and to know when a right is being violated. The prevention is the key to end and eliminate the abuse.
They can do this by establishing an effective complaint or grievance process, providing anti-harassment training to their managers and employees, and taking immediate and appropriate action when an employee complains.
