Workforce Capability and Capacity Each year, the Napavine School District requires teachers to determine if they will return the following year. Prior to the 2016-2017 school year, the District sent out confirmation letters in May. However, this year, the District sent confirmation letters in February. This was to give the District the ability to plan earlier than in years past. Not only does the District as teachers if they will return the following year, the District asks teachers what courses they would like to offer the following year. For example, I noted that a number of my seniors were not planning to go to college after high school and so I discussed the possibility of offering two different senior English classes next year. One English class would focus on literature and college preparation writing. The other English class would focus on English for the workplace and deal with non-fiction reading, workplace documents, and the mechanics of writing business types of correspondence. Unfortunately, students did not understand course outline for the English for the Workplace and we only had nine students enroll. I am the only teacher who teaches senior English and the schedule will not allow me to have a class that small and still offer the necessary sections of college bound senior English to the remaining seniors. Besides reviewing course offerings, the District uses a forecasting procedure to determine the increase or decrease in student population. This…
