Throughout my seven years as a School Counselor in the district I have developed several programs and maintained others. One program that I have taken on more of a leadership role in is the SRBI / PBIS team at Westside Middle School Academy. The SRBI / PBIS team and I meet weekly to discuss where we are and where we need to be. We utilize data to keep us informed of our current practices and reflect on what needs to be changed. We are constantly coming up with different ways to educate teachers in the process and the interventions. Leading this group has actually shaped the way I advocate for my students as a counselor. It has helped me shift my role in team meetings and parent / teacher conferences. I have found that I am better equipped …show more content…

I think we need to capitalize on the skills in our district. I think that it would engage other teachers to learn from their peers and possibly open the door for them to try something new that they normally wouldn’t. In addition to providing teachers with meaningful professional development to improve their teaching practices, I would like to push the schools in our district to engage more with the community. In order to effectively prepare our students to gain the skills, they need to be successful in today's ever-changing society with the need to collaboratively work with the community as a

My favorite job by far has been my internship as a career mentor in the Office of Career Development at my school. As a career mentor, my primary duties are to help students with resume/cover letters, job/internship search and just general life goals questions. This internship has made realize why I love working with students. It’s such a great feeling when a student comes and they may be confused about their major or how to make a resume for a job; but by the end of the your time with them, you just see this light bulb go off in their head and they have this look of “I understand”. Even though it may be a very small interaction, I feel like I have made a small difference in their lives and I have helped them somehow.…
