.Using the documents, analyze the actions and reactions of people in the Middle East to restrictions placed on the rights and freedoms of women?

A recent survey posted in the In Afghanistan show that 30% of muslims say that women should not have the choice to wear a veil. This is one of the many countries in the Middle East that are very conservative when it comes to religion. In the Middle East, extremists find different ways to take their religion to the next level. A lot of these extremists are closed inside the four walls of the government building, controlling everything and implying their beliefs …show more content…
Surprisingly, there are actual men who do support women rights and work with them to advance the movement. There is a campaign run by men who wear burqas to show unification to Afghan Women (DOC 2). These activists are people who know that what is going on in the country and see the huge injustice going on. This not only raises awareness but also shows a big sign a respect for women. Even famous soccer players have worn their hijab to raise awareness and to get the message out there (DOC7). Women are heavily silenced in the Middle East, this makes it harder to get a woman 's view of the situation. In the book Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, Marjie a young girl gives her point of view of everything happening around her. She realizes all theses changes and continues to wonder why is she even forced to do these things. Even poets express themselves and give their testimonies about their experience. There are women who are held captive by ISIS and forced to follow specific rules and regulations that intertwine with their beliefs. For example a reporter actually found out what is in this rule book. From marrying men at an early age to only learning specifically about the religion are ways that these extremists keep women tied up (DOC 5). These restrictions have irrational reasoning behind them and most don’t even have to do with religion. One crazy law in Saudi Arabia is that women cannot drive because it is believed by the government that it would westernize the country. It’s already known that the relationship with the US and Middle East is not the strongest. Hatred of the west implies many laws that differentiates the country from it (DOC 8). Actually, looking at most of the laws most places in the Middle East are really trying to go opposite of the laws placed here in the United States.
In conclusión the actions and reactions done in the Middle East towards women’s rights is a mixed bag. There are people who want to push it forward and there are people who want to pummel it down to the ground. Personally, women should be given these rights and be treated equality. We here in the West still face lots of issues when it comes to gender equality but the difference between us and Middle East is that we still find ways to
