America in three words: tremendous, free, and accepting. The history of the United States shows the good that this nation has done for not only its own citizens but others as well. Other countries look at symbols of America such as the Statue of Liberty as rays of hope that shine into their dim, dirty lives. While there are countless opportunities in this part of the world, not all are lucky enough to live in this perfect utopia. Women everywhere, not only in the northern hemisphere, deserve the choice to be who they want, what they want, and with whoever they want. Yet people are becoming accustomed to prejudice and sexism but are calling it triumphing. Time goes on and girls push through the barriers that they face but no effort to make a …show more content…
They graciously give their help to other countries who think they don’t need help, but, like a mother, America knows best. Material things are not what needs to cover women but words instead. Tell girls that expressing themselves proves to be more attractive than conforming to society. Then, when they show too much leg or too much cleavage chastise them. Empower them by saying they are more than their body shape, but then break them down because of their body shape. Keep girls in their place, and make it known they are not perfect. That way they won’t want to show themselves or be independent. They will hide away and blend in. Unknowingly, they will conform on their own merit instead of society’s. This will work in many cases, but not all. These people do not always choose to be saved. Their nature tells them lies. For example, in the autobiography In the Land of Invisible Women: A Female Doctor’s Journey in the Saudi Kingdom by Dr. Quanta Ahmed, a Westernized woman actually participates in the tradition. Quanta’s has a Saudi Arabian background, but she is domesticated by living in the US. When she returns to Saudi Arabia, she wears a veil. She says: “As I fastened the abbayah in front of a mirror inside the makeshift dressing room, I watched my eradication. Soon I was completely submerged in black. No trace of my figure remained. My androgyny was complete.” (In the Land of Invisible Women: A Female Doctor’s Journey in the Saudi Kingdom, Quanta Ahmed). Quanta described the veiling process as “a strangely inviting prison”.
