What is love?
When I think of the word love, the first thoughts that come to my mind are passion, strong affection for someone, caring deeply for a person, and always putting them first. In today’s society, the word love is not used enough. However, I have always known the true meaning of love because of my family and God. Webster Dictionary describes love as a “variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes that range from interpersonal affection to pleasure”. Love can also be considered admiration for someone or something. The word love originated in Germany, and then began to be used in the old English language.
One example of a historical love is Romeo and Juliet. This love story is considered an example of “young love”. According to Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare plot summary, Juliet, a fourteen year old girl was being forced to marry a prince who she did not know. Romeo was a Montague, and Juliet was a Capulet. Their families were big enemies, so they knew that it would be difficult for them to be together. Juliet was having a feast with Prince Paris when Romeo spotted her. The two kissed without even knowing each other’s name. When their true identities were revealed, they became very upset. The next night Romeo sneaked into Juliet’s room, they expressed their love. They both wanted to get married, but Juliet’s wedding with Prince Paris was soon. However, when Juliet father found out about the two, he moved the wedding day to the following day.
