In 2002 the United Nations commercial catches of cod, Hake, Haddock, and Flounder in the North Atlantic had dropped by 95%( smith ). Why is this happening ? The answer is overfishing. Overfishing is when people bring in a lot of fish at the same time and they don't have enough time to repopulate. Although overfishing is a good way to get a lot of fish at the same time nevertheless it is harmful to the marine balance because it alters the ocean food chain and it is harmful to many marine animals. Overfishing alters the ocean food chain because without the fish a lot of algae will grow and get everywhere. Also without the fish lots of the animals like sharks, dolphin,and
