In both the tv show, “Lost”, and the book, “Lord of the Flies”, a total of 3 deaths occur. Marshal Edward Mars dies in “Lost”, and Simon and Piggy die in “Lord of the Flies”. There is speculation over whether the deaths were murder or not.
In “Lost”, the killing of Marshal Edward Mars would be, in my opinion, not murder. Mars was in agonizing pain, and asked a someone to put him out of his misery, and having a certified doctor do so helps classify it as euthanasia. Even though Sawyer missed his heart and injured him more, it wouldn’t be classified as murder, as it was not intended to cause more pain. It may be classified as manslaughter, but not murder.
In “Lord of the Flies”, the case of Simon’s death, I would say that it isn’t murder. Before Simon’s death, the kids were doing a dance to fight their fear, calling it a beast. Simon came out of the forest into the darkness, and the kids thought it was the beast and attacked it. It wouldn’t be murder, even though they intended to do that, they never intended to kill Simon, as they thought they were killing a beast. Simon’s death would not be considered murder, as it was not planned, and wasn’t intended to kill Simon (or do anything to him, for that matter). Roger pushed a rock off of a cliff onto Piggy, which busted his head open and sent him flying, with the ocean eventually taking his body. Roger murdered Piggy, although he may not have planned it, he knew what he was doing and fully meant to do so, causing it to be a 2nd degree murder (murder with intent but was not planned or thought out). The book also says that he had a “sense of delirious abandonment”, showing that he was capable of murdering him as
