I constantly enjoy exploring the unknown. In medicine, there are so many things that remain unexplained, complete with questions that we still can't quite answer. Take something as simple as pain. You stub your toe, it hurts. Pretty simple. Now ask yourself: is pain a psychological or chemical process? Can pain be measured? Why do amputees experience a phenomenon known as phantom limb pain, where the stub of the amputated limb feels excruciatingly painful? These wicked questions I find immensely fascinating.
'In God we trust, all others must have data.' In this seminal quote, medicine practically implores you to question authority and challenge what is accepted scientifically, the prospect of which sets my mind racing.
