I believe that a diverse pool of students working together to organize and construct an environment for personal growth makes the UF experience much more valuable. As a freshmen living in Jennings Hall I have watched Residential Assistants guide and help students adjust to the life as a college student. In fact, my RA Matea has been my guide with my transition to UF. I am applying to the Residential Assistant position in hopes that I can be an asset in the life of others.

I will be graduating from the University of Florida in May 2019 with a Bachelor in Animal Sciences. I have been pursuing this degree with determination ever since I was asked by my father as a little girl what I wanted to make of my life. My determination

I anticipate my lifestyle changing a small bit, if I was to become a Residential Assistant. Although the position of being an RA comes before any other commitments, I feel that it will still be possible to balance my social life and continually see my friends. The only main change I foresee is that I will have to watch how I act and what I say. I need to set an example and be a role model. People cannot do that if they act irresponsibly and negatively with their friends or residents.…

One strength that I have that will help me become a successful Resident Assistant is the ability to communicate in many diverse situations. This would help me prosper as a Resident Assistant because communication is very important when it comes to working with people. Being able to get your message across clearly and efficiently is essential when being a leader to a group of students. A Resident Assistant must be able to communicate his or her rules and expectations for the year in a way that each student would be able to understand clearly. If a student does not understand what the Resident Assistant is saying, it is the job of the Resident Assistant to tell them in a way that the student would be able to comprehend and follow.…

I feel they do this because they can share their own experiences to make sure we are as prepared as possible to be a resident assistant. The student staff in the class can also provide us with tips and helpful information in order for us to be top notch resident assistants. The thing I found most interesting from the discussion about student staff on January 8th, was how many people in the class thought that the “The RA is a staff member/Office of Housing and Residence Life employee” function was one of the top. Yes, a resident assistant is an employee, but I would never want to look at it as a job because I want it to be something I thoroughly enjoy. Being a resident assistance would be something that would require a lot of work, but in the end something which makes you feel…

The interest that I had for being an RA came from the welcoming environment the RAs in my hall gave me. The more that RA told me about the job position, the more I was interested in becoming one.
