During my last year of college I interned as a dolphin trainer, tortoise conservationist, medical laboratory technician and none of them sparking my interest until a doctor asked me to shadow him. I always thought interacting with people was something I would not be interested in at all, but it took someone else to see something inside of me that not even I thought I had. Working a full-time job throughout my college career in customer service for a pest control company made me believe I did not want a career interacting with people face-to-face. Nevertheless, that first day of shadowing Dr. Bezard, I knew that helping people, making someone smile and making even just one person’s day a little bit better is all I need to fulfill my happiness in a career. I feel that not only does working in the medical field require vast knowledge, but it also requires the ability to be able to relate to people and not judge. Watching Dr. Bezard with his patients taught me that not only is he there to help people in a physical way, diagnose conditions, begin treatments, etc., but he also has an emotional connection with all of his patients. You can certainly tell that his patients know that he sincerely cares about them and their well-being and that is what “total care” is all
