At first I thought that it was just a book over pronuncia-tion and how were saying things wrong, but after I read and reflected on the preface of the book, I have completely changed my mind. In my opinion, this author is arrogant, stuck up, and just to me, kind of plain and flat out rude. I do not understand, and will not understand how the pronuncia¬tions of the exact same word make you “Upper class” but when pronounced differently it make you, “lower class.” I do not believe that language interacts with wealth; I do not see that for one second. Your language may change if you are in a room full of doctors having a fancy dinner, you may try to make yourself sound more classy, but in all reality, any way you say the same word, it is still just that, the same word. The way you speak does not determine your wealth either, you could be a high school English teacher and not make that much money, but have one hundred times better grammar then your sister, who is a lawyer that is making triple the amount of money that you …show more content…
We are very privileged to have language that we can communicate back and fourth with each other, I do not think having a certain style of talk¬ing like descriptivism or prescriptivism will make you any more privileged then you neigh-bor, and I do not believe that having a awesome use of perfect language will make you a million-aire, you have to be working in the field where your language is important, like journal¬ism or broadcasting, you can be privileged threw wealth by having a good understanding of the language, so yes, it does give you opportunity, but also opportunity for wealth and privilege, they all tie
