What Values Are Moral Values? Essay

“Your beliefs become your thoughts, Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.” (Mahatma Gandhi) I find this quote to be very touching, true, and eye-opening because as a younger person I have yet to fully find out who I am as a human being. Yes, of coarse I have a general idea of what my values are and what moral values I should follow in order to seem socially acceptable, but that also seems to be the problem. We follow certain guidelines pertaining to what is “socially acceptable” but if you really think about it, who created the rules regarding what society should look like or how we should behave? We go day to day dressing, acting, speaking, and looking a certain way in order to fit a certain description but this is mainly because we were raised with these certain values and although I do agree with some values that most of us in society follow such as being well behaved in public, dressing properly, and having respect for our elders, I still have the the question in the back of my mind regarding who made these values and morals acceptable. I know this trend could not have started over night but it certainly did catch on over time. I question whether someone can really be “themselves” because since we are raised with certain morals and values it really is not who that person is but rather who that person was raised to be depending on what the parents…
