In this paper, I will go over three separate situation or dilemmas that demonstrate a cultural class between two socio-cultural groups. The two socio- cultural groups will be the African American and Latinos. What is socio- cultural groups mean, “relating to, or involving a combination of social and cultural factors” (Merriam-webster.com, 2017). The three points are the workplace, misunderstanding or conflict between different nationalities, religious or, ethnic groups and the differences in cultural practice. This paper would go into detail and explaining the dilemma or the misunderstanding of culture groups especially African American and Latinos. I am interest in these three points because I feel by being minority it is important to have …show more content…
I agree with the article of The Diversity Factor that, “the workplace is one of the few places where people of different races, ethnicities, histories, and cultures come together to achieve common goals” (Anon, 2017), there are a few more places that all culture come together for a common goal, for an example when 911 happen all men and women work together to fix America again, culture or ethnic group did not matter or the color of your skin. The article of The Diversity Factor, has classify Blacks and Latinos are racially and ethnically. Blacks and Latinos is described as the, “culturally diverse mix of people who all grapple with the issues our country faces” (Anon, 2017). It sad that African American and Latinos have their own identities regardless how society look at them or accepted them they have their own style, values, even in the work place they are not accepted. African American feel that racial play a part in workplace sometime because African American feel that when another person or culture speak another language, they are scary that they are being talked about. The Latinos feel it racial when they speak in another language they are foreigner because they have a strong accent. Another racial thought could be by being Latinos they must have them, “Knowledge of the Spanish language varies considerably within the Latino community” (Anon, 2017). It sad when the writer Daisy was doing research she came cross that, “in the corporate sector the higher-level positions held by Blacks and Latinos are generally held by those who are lighter in skin color” (Anon, 2017). This show that racial plays a part in the workplace. It seems if you skin tone light you have a change to have higher position in

Ogbu gives validation to the minorities’ cultures as a way where they can be held at an equal footing to whites. This can be seen in his explanation of the cultural model, which he describes as “an understanding that a people have of their universe – social, physical, or both – as well as their understanding of their behavior in that universe.” Many students view the cultural model as a representation of how the understanding of people for their world is organized in their head and how it relates to specific behaviors, but Ogbu focuses on the cultural model as a distinction of all the races and how they differ from one another. In Ogbu’s view on the cultural model, he looks at what the members in a population actually say or do as opposed to the organization that goes on in their…

He quips, “I guess the big mystery is, who gathered all those remarkably different cultures together and taught them all how to park to their cars on their lawns”. These four examples from both the white and black communities demonstrate symptoms of Ethnic Hierarchy. In each case, the offending party speaks and labels others from a presumed position of cultural superiority. Although Rez Life and Crash describe different aspects of Group Separatism and Ethnic Hierarchy, they are similar in 2 ways.…

Hello everyone, The world of theatre has progressively made great strides towards inclusivity among different races, cultures, and classes, as can be supported by the text’s mention of how Latino theatre, Asian American theatre, and theatre of difference rose up in the last century (Cohen 273). Latino theatre exemplifies diversity by portraying topics that affect various Hispanic communities and cultures, along with including a mixture of both English and Spanish in many productions of plays such as Zoot Suit and Lydia (Cohen 274). Asian American theatre shows such as Miss Saigon and M. Butterfly also serve to entertain and educate audiences about issues dealing with eastern cultures, such as the political strife from past wars or immigration…

There are institutions like schools and hospitals that for one reason or the other have a predominant race on the employees; but there is no segregation, or it is very difficult to find a predominant race in the personnel at Bellevue. This enriches the service because most of the employees speak at least two languages. Another aspect I have observed is that at the work place the status of the occupation overrides the gender or the race statuses. I mean two nurses one Russian and one from the Philippine will share more than a nurse - doctor/ a technician – clerk / volunteer- security guard from the same race or origin.…

In the workplace, the role of gender, race and ethnicity can influence the effectiveness of the company's performance. Diversity in an organization involves the development of a work culture where people of different races, genders and nationalities can blend to achieve the same goals. By studying various groups, we can determine the effects of diversity and what particular gender dominates in the workplace. In our society, there are occupations that economists call “pink collared jobs.”…

Although in this paper I do not exclusively discuss Latinas as a separate entity, I would like to give some background on the differences between male and female Latinos. Female Latinos outnumbered their male counterpart (57% to 43%) in college classrooms (Lango 1995). Perhaps, this may be cultural since we see the same trend with US-born population (Lewin 2006). I just wanted to recognize that gender also plays a role in academic achievement in Latinos as well as other ethnic groups. Primary education in the United States refers to the first eight-nine years of formalized education.…

This is a subject that hits closer to home as I am sure it may for a few of my other classmates. Cancer is rising in all aspects and in all races; the Hispanic/Latin culture is one of them having cancer surpass heart disease as one of the leading amongst the culture. Although the percentages have slightly dropped they are still higher than any other chronic disease, I have had to deal with this in my own life having my father fall ill to two of the four common (brain and lung) forms of it and know and understand more about this generational scourge. Most of the disparities are as common in the Hispanic culture as they are in any other such as lack of quality health care, location, affordability or even being able to obtain proper insurance.…

This suggests that both black and other minorities, such as Hispanic immigration enter the U.S. with significant financial vulnerabilities. The social conflict between Black Americans and the native born (Caucasians) or between rich and poor is strong.
