Ares is the god of war in Greek mythology. He is known for his strength and power and temper. He was a terrible god who was unmerciful and unpleasant. He terrorized all the mortals and was unliked by many of his fellow gods. In Hindu mythology, Ares’ role in war is taken by a god named Agni. Agni is the Hindu god of war. Unlike Ares, he is also the god of fire. This would actually make him also a parallel to Ares’ brother Hephaestus. Also unlike Ares, Agni is the protector of men. Ares’ animal is the dog while Agni’s is a goat. Agni’s skin is red, and he has dark eyes and seven arms and three legs and two heads. Ares is portrayed as a more human- like figure. However, they also have disparate qualities because they are, of course, from different cultures. Agni, the Hindu god of war, is the son of the Celestial Waters. Odin was instead born from the giants Bor and Bestla. Agni and Odin had much in common. Both of them were not just gods of power and strength and fighting, but also had other things they did. Odin was knowledgeable and a leader while Agni was a priest and had a pleasant disposition that made him popular among both gods and mortals. They were both more liked and accepted by their fellow gods and mortals than Ares. Agni, being the protector of man, hates no man and is instead loved by all. Odin wants only fairness and justice in the universe and is also willing to impart his wisdom on others who ask for
