Many individuals celebrated as highly effective leaders have character traits which society classifies as both good and bad. However, from the broad definition of leadership, the end seems to justify the means. Leadership is influencing through motivation so individuals or subordinates will accomplish activities, goals, or objectives. Personal attributes of a leader are critical in defining his or her input in leading individuals or an organization. Known successful leaders can be classified as rough or smooth. For example, Gandhi appeared to believe in smoothness whereas Hitler appeared to believe in sternness, yet both achieved the desired result. The model of influencing and their leadership style the activities define their organizational success.
Effective leadership involves leader’s characteristics. Effective leaders are those that have courage to pursue the perceived tasks. Courage is critical in determining tough decisions within an organization. At times certain decisions such as changing the tradition of an organization need people that have courage to lead the charge. Unlike everybody else, a leader needs to be ambitious. The changes that we see in organizations are dreams or ambitions of the leaders. To steer the organization towards pursuing its ambitions, leaders must anticipate the future and pursue.
