Every time I hear Beau Bridges say: “My father was my teacher. But most importantly he was a great dad.” I ask myself, what makes a great dad?
If you look closely, you will notice that all great dads share three qualities: they are active in a child’s life, are positive role models, and encourage discipline. A great dad’s job is to play an active role in his child’s life; they are there for their children no matter what the situation: good, bad, or ugly. They help guide their kids as they grow into young adults and continue to offer their guidance as they become mature adults. Dads are positive role models and responsible adults. They teach their kids the value of hard work and dedication, how to respect others, and use their relationship with their wives to demonstrate how a man should treat and love a woman. Dads are not perfect people, but they encourage discipline when necessary. If a child makes a mistake, a dad is there to help pick them up, dust them off, and show them how to start over, so they can achieve the result they desire. They tech their kids how to ride bikes, play sports, and get them to understand that they can do anything they put their minds to.
The topic of what makes a great dad can be argued for hours; however, sometimes it’s best to consult the authorities.
