What is love? How do you define it? Do you believe in true love? Love is a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person and warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion. I have always thought that love was accepting people for who they are and believing in them regardless of their strength and weaknesses. Since then I have come across several definitions of love both in dictionaries and my conversations with different people. Love is a magical feeling composed of three elements attachment, caring and intimacy.
Attachment is the need to receive care, approval, and physical contact with another person. It is a need for someone to fill a void in their life or raise their self-esteem. When you feel that you are all alone and cannot rely on yourself, someone will come along and make you feel that they are a port in the storm - someone to talk to, someone to help you, to hold you, someone to hang on to. Love is not demanding or desperate. Love is whole and wholly giving.
Caring involves valuing the other person’s needs and happiness as much as your own. Caring is letting things matter to us, including other people. It means valuing their well-being and acting with attention to their needs. When we care about someone or something, we hold a consciousness of what can harm them and what is needed for them to flourish. Acts of kindness and words that let others know that we care. Our caring can comfort another person even when neither of us has the power to change a difficult…
