What I Have Learned About Research During the weeks involved with Psychology 255, I have learned a substantial amount about research. Through the course, students are taught to understand how to conduct research and beneficial ways to apply the research. Also, through this course, students are taught different methods of research and ethical guidelines to completing this research. This synthesis paper takes into account what I have learned as a student and how a Christian perspective of research can be applied. With this particular paper, I will be considered as the research subject and will use a first person account.
The First Half of the Course According to Cozby and Bates (2015), “Research methods can be the way to satisfy our native curiosity about ourselves, our world, and those around us” (p. 3). The course taught me just that. During the first half of the course, I was taught how to conduct and understand research. In the first week and second week, I learned what a scientific understanding of behavior truly meant and the different types of research methods. The first chapters also hint on the importance of intuition and authority. Intuition involves what people know, while authority involves speculation (Cozy & Bates, 2015, p. 4). The importance of a scientific approach was also enforced.
