From my undergraduate career at Case Western Reserve University, where I studied Economics, I learned a lot about myself in an academic sense. I learned that I was good at understanding complex concepts introduced in these classes. I found that I had a very deep interest in finding out how the business world works, and how different analytical tools can used to make sense out of data collected from our society. Throughout my childhood, I saw my father more as an engineer (he pursued mechanical engineering in the college) than as a business-man handling our family business as he always used to apply his engineering logics for every household problems. Be it repairing any machine in the kitchen or handling logistics in the business, he always proved that an engineer always find a unique out-of-the-box solution for every problem. As I entered the University of Southern Florida and enrolled in my first college classes, I had no idea what “Academic Foundations” meant. I thought that it was going to be a class about how to write papers, take tests, and use a computer. So naturally, I wasn’t too thrilled. The term “academic” doesn’t normally scream fun. Being able to invest with $1,000,000 allowed me to see how each investment impacted my portfolio, something that my personal portfolio can’t do on the same scale. I learned that you need to be constantly aware of what is happening across all industries, as well as how some world events can play a major factor in the stock price as well. I learned that in order to be successful you have to pay close attention to the markets and the moment you don’t watch the market it will eat you alive. I also learned that making assumptions on certain positions wasn’t the right reasoning to invest into certain stocks. Overall, I enjoyed participating in the game throughout the semester, but wish I could have remained as the one of the top two investors in this game for a longer period of…
