As I said before, in the illustration, there is a man’s hand holding a glass paper weight. The hand symbolizes Big Brother himself. Since there is a brain within the paperweight, the hand controls what happens to it. The brain symbolizes how Winston and Julia felt before they experienced Room 101. In a split second, the grasp of the hand controls the fate of the paperweight. As you can see, all of the paradoxes written are quotes from the novel 1984. All of these sayings are causing pressure on the glass of the paperweight; threatening to completely break it. The quotes symbolize the force to conform to how the party wants the people of Oceania to think. The hand holding the paperweight is also another threat to the protection of the brain inside. Either one of these forces can destroy the brain inside at any moment if it does not submit to the pressures of society or to the hand of Big
