The INCLUDE Strategy: Explaining Student Learning Strengths And Needs In The Classroom

The INCLUDE strategy is a great place to start. I think it really analyzes the needs of all students, especially those that need extra help. I do agree with the way this method is laid out. However, I feel that this is something that should be done anyways. For students that need accommodations and for the classroom in general. Every step of this strategy can be looked at from a general perspective, which is another reason why I like it so much. The INCLUDE strategy can be altered to use in different aspects. Regardless if a teacher is aware of the INCLUDE strategy or not, they should somewhat be following these steps anyways if they really care about the students.

In the previous lesson about the paperwork for special needs students, it mentions noting student 's strengths. You should establish their strengths in order to build from them. Students gain intrinsic motivation from their strengths. You can use their strengths as learning tools. Also, focusing on their strengths can help you stay positive. It helps the student and the teacher. Strengths help everyone overcome their problems. You might even be able to teach the students a little about themselves. It should be obvious that there is a problem if the student is misbehaving. This kinda falls under the “look for potential problems” in the INCLUDE strategy. However, Maslow’s theory pulls in a lot of the main ideas from this chapter. The student may not feel like the belong, they might have physiological needs at home not being met, or they could have low self-esteem. Most of these areas can be aided at school.
