Imagine you are in a foreign country, you see your life flash before your eyes, you hear bombs exploding and guns firing, then you see your best friend die. Welcome to the Vietnam War. This war had the most American war casualties in our history. But this was only because we didn’t want a country to become a communist. We were never allies with Vietnam, we were enemies with them in World War II and we want to become friends with them? Was this a really smart choice for the United States, where were the ethics when coming into this and having American troops killed just to protect a country we should have never protected in the first place?

The North Vietnamese wanted to have “Peace” if the Americans withdrew from the war. When the first troops withdrew from the war, the others were very angry that they could not leave. Tens of thousands of soldiers got dishonorable discharges because of their anger. But from 1965 through 1973, over 500,000 people decided to leave for Canada because of the draft, they were called “Draft Dodgers”, even though in 1972, Nixon called an “All-Volunteer Army.”. There were many protests including two at Kent State and Jackson State and police killed 6 student protesters. Nixon decided, after declining a peace treaty, to bomb North Vietnam on Christmas Day known as “Christmas Bombings”, but it was actually called “Operation Linebacker
