Anita Scism, she became the new President and CEO of the Walton Arts Center after the current President and CEO Bill Mitchell decided to take another position in West Virginia. She assembled her new management team which included Jenni Taylor Swain whom she promoted to the new Senior Vice President of Programs in addition to the changes she reduced the number of Vice Presidents this actually saved the Center some money. Also with that promotion she gave Jenni the primary responsibility for events programing in which her predecessor Bill Mitchell had done himself but she felt due to her new responsibilities as President and CEO she needed to concentrate on the management of the center. Not only did she change her staff but also the members on the board of directors changed also due to they are limited up to nine years on the Board and some of them had reached that limit.…

Arts integration in many public schools have witnessed a drastic improvement of parent involvement based on the arts integration provided by the school district. Parents attend musicals, arts shows and dance recitals to show their support for the arts programs. Arts programs also help with the entirety of the school culture and the rejuvenation of teachers that are experiencing issues with being burnt out on the career. Studies have shown drastic improvements on state mandated assessments between schools that have arts integrations and those that do not provide arts education on a regular basis. Student behavior and attendance are also effected by the integration of arts programs.…

Annotated Bibliography http://www.pbs.org/parents/education/music-arts/the-importance- of-art-in-child-development retrieved 10/13/15 Grace Hwang Lynch discusses the many developmental benefits of providing art in the classroom. Children develop fine motor skills when they learn how to use a paintbrush, crayon, scissors, and other skills learned in art. Decision making skills are strengthened in art education by children choosing how to create their art which encourages critical thinking and problem solving. Children in art classes develop visual-spatial skills which is important in our society.…
When developing this plan, considerations were made to ensure the experience was inclusive to all. Therefore, developmental, cultural and social backgrounds were considered and recognised when providing differentiation. Additionally, the abilities and interests of each individual child were acknowledged through the modifications made to the activity on the day (Stinson & O’Connor, 2012). This aligns with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child who acknowledge that every child has a right to participate in an age appropriate arts activities. This is supported by Newsinger and Green’s (2016) research into the positive relationship between art and empowering children with…
Lester & Parnell give a good example of what a differentiation strategy means. "Businesses that employ the differentiation strategy emphasize uniqueness, producing and marketing products or services that can be readily distinguished from those of their competitors" (Lester & Parnell, 2006, p.12). Scism utilizes this strategy for the Walton Art Center in many ways. First, she found ways to utilize the staff that she already had without creating new expenses for the art center. Next, Scism made sure that she moved her management staff around to areas where she saw fit for their potential to help develop that particular department.…

Unfortunately, because there is not enough funding in lower socioeconomic areas, art and music programs are often cut out of the education program and by default these children’s educations are now considered to be “less valuable”. Although the idea that their education is less valuable because of this is not really true, the fact that they are being underestimated because they don’t have creative…
As I visited the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday October 29, 2016 I had the opportunity to visually see many different types of artworks. This was my first visit to an art museum. The museum collects and houses hundreds of contemporary works by Georgia artist. There were many different types of artwork including painting, prints, sculptures and photography. The art museum was smaller than what I thought it would be and reminded me of an art exhibit but without selling the artwork.…
A central theme evident on urban education is the importance of the arts in education. The arts consist of many disciplines such as music, dance, and theatre. Arts education is crucial in the development of the youth through both critical skills and creativity. The benefits of the arts include motor skills, language development, decision-making, visual learning, cultural awareness, and an overall improvement in academics (Lynch, 2012).…
Without financial support for the arts, parents and students are left to struggle with the problem and left with either no arts program or an arts program that is subpar. Students are the losers academically and creatively, while often those same schools ' athletic programs flourish. A student who is not athletically inclined and is struggling academically, may be led to greater successes with just the right arts experience or class, but without it, may never reach their full potential. Arts education must again be given a high priority in our education system if we wish to provide our society with high-achieving and the best prepared…
Art education is not something that should not exceed the budget of other schools that cannot afford it and instead be shared equally among all types of public schools. Art education is seems to benefit a young child dramatically, “The arts also contribute to the education of young children by helping them realize the breadth of human experience, see the different ways humans express sentiments and convey meaning, and develop subtle and complex forms of thinking” (Sousa) Although the arts are often thought of as separate subjects, like chemistry or algebra, they really are a collection of skills and thought processes that transcend all areas of human engagement. Art has its own form of educational value and students develop better interaction skills with their peers and the public. Being able to develop a bond with peers with their same interest’s help students open up and become less shy thus helping them build a more sophisticated way of thinking.…
