Anita Scism, she became the new President and CEO of the Walton Arts Center after the current President and CEO Bill Mitchell decided to take another position in West Virginia. She assembled her new management team which included Jenni Taylor Swain whom she promoted to the new Senior Vice President of Programs in addition to the changes she reduced the number of Vice Presidents this actually saved the Center some money. Also with that promotion she gave Jenni the primary responsibility for events programing in which her predecessor Bill Mitchell had done himself but she felt due to her new responsibilities as President and CEO she needed to concentrate on the management of the center.
Not only did she change her staff but also the members on the board of directors changed also due to they are limited up to nine years on the Board and some of them had reached that limit. Large financial contributors to the Center increased their donations to the Center’s endowment funds in turn these contributors wanted to support educational activities due to their special interest in education. The principal of these funds could not be spend by the Center but the endowment earnings could be so with the approval of the independent Board money was transferred this one time in order to provide working capital and financial stability for the Center also the foundation paid for some new equipment for the Center.
