TheVillage, is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1877 in response to the increasing number of homeless children in Philadelphia. According, to the organization’s 2014 fiscal year report, “81% of the youth that resided in theVillage went home or to less restrictive programs, while 23% of the children in the foster care program achieved permanency” (thevillage, 2014). I would work with Paula to explore some of the interventions that she feels have been helpful in her treatment as well as interventions hat she feels were unhelpful in her treatment. Lastly, I would ask Paula to identify what her treatment goals are. In doing, this I am showing Paula that her input matters and that she is an essential component in her treatment and the treatment planning process and as a result Paula would view my actions as beneficial (Poulin, 2010, p.50) and will be more likely to have an open dialogue with me. I would then utilize the person in environment concept, to explore how all of the external systems in Paula’s life interact and impact her functioning. By gaining a more comprehensive view of the client and the systems involved in her life I am able better equipped to assist Paula with goal setting. My role in working would Paula is to get her to see her strengths and help her use them to overcome or work through her current stressors. This can be achieved by using the strengths-based approach and understating the six principles that guide the strengths based approach. My role in working with Paula is to support her, collaborate with her, link her to appropriate resources when needed
