I believe it is very important not to undervalue the role of social demographics when assessing the problems which exist with in urban education. In return, students mentally process academic failures as conformation of their subjugated role in society, even beyond the classroom. Urban education policies must recognize that cultural responsiveness is a central element to student learning. Cultural responsiveness is being able to communicate and shape the thinking of process of teachers and administration alike. School districts and practitioners make the mistake of making decisions without attentive consideration of various cultural realities for the students they serve. An example of this would be schools that serve a high demographic of students who are homeless. These schools should support student through after school programs that encourage students to finish homework because not every student will have a home to go to. Because a “home” is not mutually exclusive to all students, schools create a space that
