These romantic critics are too dogmatic in their ideology. According to Brown v. Board of Education, African American students can’t go to the same school as the white because of discrimination in the society. Carol Corbett Burris and Kevin G. Welner argue that the achievement gap can be close by detracking. Burris and Welner also states that school is not to blame. The reason why some students doesn’t have the same opportunity as the other students is because of the social and political issues. According to Burris and Welner, “ Some believe that the solution is to encourage more minority students to take high-track classes. Others believe that if all students are given the enriched curriculum that high-achieving students receive, achievement will rise.” (Burris and Welner, 81). Evan proves that high income students are more engage in school because one’s parents support one with school supplies while lower income students doesn’t have access to books and extra tutors. According to Evans “Low-income homes contained fewer books, toys, and other developmentally appropriate learning opportunities relative to middle- and upper-income homes. Half of low-income, American children between three and five years of age have 10 or more children's books in their home” (Evans).
Achievement Gap can’t be close because there are many issues such as economic issues. Mathis states that the Federal and States government are not willing to spend more money in school. In order to improve education for the lower class, the school need more money to create smaller classes, extra tutoring after school, advanced technologies, etc. Lower classes students can't afford a bike, gas, bus ticket therefore one might not be able to go to class. Lower classes students are less likely to attend college than middle class and higher class therefore the education gap is still far
