There are three types of justice, they are distributive, retributive and compensatory justice. In this case distributive justice requires distributing society’s benefits and burden fairly. Unocal received major benefits from this project but they did not pay all the people that worked on this pipeline. The Burmese government also reaped unjust reward and they did not share any of the burden. Retributive justice has to do with punishing those that did wrong. This was not done; Unocal should have suffered major damages for the way how they treated the people. Compensatory justice is restoring to a person what the person has lost when he or she was wronged by someone. In some instance Unocal provided jobs, medical facilities, programs and business opportunities for the people. On the other hand, they lacked care especially toward the Karen people who were mistreated and force to work without pay. In my opinion Unocal acted immorally by allowing their partners to mistreat the people. Many land and properties were stolen. Unocal was not justified in deciding to invest the pipeline. Unocal knew about the situation in Burma, that the government was oppressive, this was a military dictatorship, and the various human right
