The Universal Language of Rhythm It’s around 12:30AM and a kid is browsing his Tumblr page looking at creative content. After some time of browsing, he keeps seeing this viral video of a Japanese rapper’s music video. He always ignored the video, but keeps seeing it so much that he decided to watch it. As he is watching the video, the kid starts bobbing his head to the heavy bass and likes the song. Once he finishes the video, he reblogs it, and many more people like it, but the most intriguing part about this video is that the entire song is rapped in Japanese, so the kid doesn't understand a single word. The three million people who viewed this video said in the comments that they don't understand the language, but to sum up the comments in one phrase, “Damn this shit goes hard!” He checked video again a couple months later, and noticed that the video hit fourteen million views, and the rapper just released a remix with other renowned American rappers. The song got much more positive feedback from the American audience even though they don't understand what the Japanese rapper is saying, but like the sound of the music. Kanye is a producer of his own beats and writes his own lyrics, but a unique aspect of his music is how he implements “rich melodies and harmonies,” however the main theme is rhythm. (Bradley 6). Kanye’s song, Get Em High, uses a clever flow in his lyrics to give a sense of rhythm, “my rhyme’s in the pocket like wallets/ I got the bounce like hydraulics/ I can't call it, I got the swerve like alcohol-ics,” (I suggest you listen to the song to get a sense of what I’m saying).
