On September 11, 2001 America was attacked by Islamic terrorists deriving from Saudi Aribia and other Arab nations. The terrorist group was believed to be financed by the Saudi fugitive Osama bin Laden the leader of the terrorist organization al-Qaeda. The terrorist organization targeted the U.S. due to the country’s involvement in the Persian Gulf War and continued military assistance in the Middle East. The attack resulted in the terrorist organization forcefully controlling four airliners from American Airlines and crashing the airliners into the twin towers at the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon at Washington D.C. and a field at Pennsylvania (History.com). The terrorist attack on America known as 9/11 showed the U.S. the danger of terrorist organizations and the weakness of the United States’ defense against terrorism. First, the terrorist attack influenced increased military action in Afghanistan and Iraq and the first acts of War on Terror. President George W. Bush deployed troops to disassemble the al-Qaeda group in Afghanistan and to remove the Taliban government. Therefore, on March 2003 Iraq was invaded by U.S. soldiers as President Saddam Hussein was forcefully removed from office due to suspicion of creating weapons of mass destruction and in “May 2, 2011 the 9/11 organizer Osama bin Laden was killed by U.S. forces” (History.com). Ending in late 2014, the Afghanistan war was the longest war in U.S. History and increased budgets for defense agencies…
