Truman 's Decision For Dropping The Bomb Essay
According to many government records from discussion of class, lectures and websites, this argument will be made.
According to article Arguments Supporting The Bomb by Michael Barnes, he supports with Truman’s decision for dropping the bomb because of six reasons. The first reason is saving American lives that would have been lost from the attack at Pearl Harbor in 1941. The second reason is “The Decision was made by a Committee of Shared Responsibility.” Giving a warning for Japanese by Potsdam Declaration and Leaflets is the third reason. The fourth reason is “The atom bomb was in retaliation for Japanese barbarism.” Justifying the money spent in the Manhattan Project by President Roosevelt in 1932 is the fifth reason. The last one is “Truman Inherited the War Policy of Bombing Cities.”
On the other hand, either historians or students do not support to Truman’s decision by many ways. After much thought, I disagree with his decision too. Because of bombing, several hundred thousand innocent people died, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were almost destroyed, and disease and death are non-stop by several years.
