1. To analyse the role of administrative apparatus in running tribal welfare hostels.
2. To make comparative assessment of the working of Tribal Welfare Hostels in agency and plain regions of Andhra Pradesh.
3. To analyse the scholastic achievements of tribal welfare hostel boarders.
4. To analyse and assess the perceptions of the boarders, wardens and parents of Tribal Welfare hostels.
5. To suggest suitable measure for the effective functioning of Tribal welfare hostels in India in general and Andhra Pradesh state in particular. Hypotheses
1. The functioning of tribal welfare hostels in plain areas is far better than agency areas in Andhra Pradesh.
2. There is congenial environment for the boarders in tribal welfare hostels.
3. There are no major variations in the scholastic achievements of boarders of plain areas and agency areas.

In the first stage four districts viz., Adilabad, and Kurnool (Gond-Kolam Region) Anantapur, Chittoor(plain Areas) of Andhra Pradesh were selected. In the second stage from each district two Tribal welfare hostels were selected. The following criteria are followed for selection of Hostels.
1. One Tribal Welfare Hostel exclusively running for girls is selected.
2. Another one Tribal Welfare Hostel exclusively running for boys is selected
In the third stage from each selected hostel 5 respondent from each class i.e. VI-X were selected by simple random sampling method. The parents/ guardians of selected students were selected for the study. So the universe of the sample constitutes 200 hostel respondents and their parents/ guardians. The following table gives clear picture of sampling.
