Although I agree with Freeman’s point, I agree more with Claiborne & Siegel conclusion that children still need to find that cultural balance. Even though Freeman showed that they are okay without any outside connections related to race and other things, I believe that those connections could help alot. I once believed that it doesn’t matter who the children are adopted by. I believed very strongly in this because I thought that as long as these children are being loved, accepted, and respected then that was all that mattered. After reading the Transracial Adoption article, I saw another side of the story. Children do indeed need to feel that connection with people like themselves. Yeah, at home it may not be noticeable that there is a color difference but out in the real world, people notice. The adopted children notice. And they also notice that they aren’t anything like who the people that look like them are like.
So in conclusion, I believe that to fix this problem, parents should provide cultural awareness for their children. They don’t necessarily have to be black for black children or white for the whites but that culture connection is key for helping them find their identity and place in the
