The novel Beloved takes place in Ohio,1856. It tells the story of a runaway slave named Sethe who is being chased by the horrific memories she bears regarding her children. Denver, the only child who is presently living with Sethe, suffer through the same situation , on the same street, in the same house. , numbered “124” (Morrison 3). Beloved a peculiarly mysterious girl appears out of the blue and adds an even heavier burden to the situation. Paul D, Sethe’s old friend and new lover reveal to her on her deathbed a small glimpse of a big future;the “best thing” (273) worth living for: the future. Beloved tells a tale of an undeniable truth: The past can haunt - but never determine the future.

The race of the African American was one that was humiliated and deteriorated. Africans were not allowed independence, individuality or even a chance to see what was on the horizon for “tomorrow”.
