Multiple times within the book, Tom Robinson is being accused by Mayella with no physical evidence of a sexual assault taking place. This is evident by Mayella almost rehearsed testimony and fake breakdown. The proof will show that Mayella is trying to use Tom as an escape goat for her social crime of kissing a black male and making advancements. This is just another reason why the book is great example that justice can be control.
The third piece of evidence is the eventually death of Tom Robinson and Bob Ewell. The death of Tom shows how the guard did not try to detain or stop the individual but instead just went ahead and shot him down. The death of Bob Ewell is a suicide and not because he was push to murder but this might have happened because he felt bad about lying to cover for Mayella’s social crime. This shows how racism can worm its way into the justice system and affect many innocent lives.
This is just some of the reasons why the theme of TKAM and how justice is blind and can be influenced. There are more reasons why this is the theme but these are the top ones and most prominent pieces. The book is a outstanding read and displays the Great Depression with very relatable
