By cutting down forests to process palm oil, Tim Hortons is not involved in a sustainable development of their products. This means that the company is unable to meet human consumption while still maintaining the environment. Tim Hortons is also involved in resource depletion. By destroying a vast amount of forests, Tim Hortons is continuously consuming scarce resources, without regards to the effect that it is having on the environment. It is easier and cheaper to ignore the environmental problems a business is facing, when the problem gets in the way of the business making a profit. If this company continues to abuse the environment this way, the world may run of its available resources all together. By disregarding sustainable business practices, Tim Hortons is also encouraging other companies to do the same. This is because if a company as large as Tim Hortons can get away with unethical practices, then other large companies should too. By using an ethical imperialists’ perspective, it can be determined that this is wrong of Tim Hortons. Canadians would disapprove of deforestation in Canada, which would that it is also wrong in other countries as well. NGOs are non-profit organizations, composed of volunteers with a development focus. Forest Heroes focus is to improve the environment. This organization wants to protect the Earth’s forests and climate, to ensure that the forests will have a future. Forest Heroes became involved when they wanted Tim Hortons to start using non-deforestation palm oil for their doughnuts. Having NGOs involved in a company’s issues, will most likely affect that companies’ business activities. NGOs work for the benefit of the community, while large businesses work for a profit. As a result, members of the community are more likely to support a NGOs goal, over the goal of a large company like Tim Hortons. With pressure from a NGO, Tim Hortons will probably encourage and guarantee, that the process of having their supply chain partners purchase palm oil from sustainable choices is followed through
