The YWCA is a non-profit organization in Spokane, Washington that provides women, children, and families in crisis, who are victims of domestic violence and homelessness, with access to services and emergency shelter. The YWCA’s mission is dedicated to “eliminating racism, empowering women, standing up for social justice, helping families, and strengthening communities” (YWCA Spokane, 2017). Since 1903, the Spokane YWCA has been committed to serving a wide variety of needs for women, children, and families throughout our community. It is important to identify the mission, goals, and objectives of a program before gathering program evaluation data because “it is important for stakeholders to agree on what they collectively are trying to accomplish” …show more content…
McLaughlin and Jordan (2010) state that a logic model is a useful tool for conceptualizing, planning, and communicating with others about their program. Additionally, logic models can show how the various goals are expected to produce the desired outcomes. The W.K. Kellogg Foundation (2006) points out that a “logic model is a systematic and visual way to present and share your understanding of the relationships among the resources you have to operate your program, the activities you plan, and the changes or results you hope to achieve” (Foundation, 2006). The basic logic model’s components illustrate the connection or linkages between your planned work and the intended results produced from that work (Foundation, 2006). Characteristics of a logic model include a program’s inputs or resources, activities, outputs, short-term, intermediate, and long-term outcomes. Using social media, such as Facebook, can be advantageous, especially if the organization frequently posts pictures and short comments (Waters, Burnett, Lamm, & Lucas, 2009). With the rapid advancement in technology, it is important to find and use the right tools of communication in the social networking sphere, those that allow engagement with stakeholders and target the relevant audiences. While there is no set formula for effectively engaging audiences through social media platforms, there are various tools, applications, and websites available. Before using social media, it is important for organizations to think, plan, and choose the ones that strategically fit their purpose and overall needs.
To keep the organization’s synergy moving forward, the YWCA should have a plan in place to recruit and develop employees who will fill key roles in the organization. This can be done by finding individuals who share the core values of the organization, who share a mutual passion, along with shared interests, and a preferred skill set. Selecting employees for the best fit often requires strategic actions, communicated vision, and constant maintenance to keep organizations vibrant and
