To me I think this made Joan feel lonely, because she was scared to ask them questions, and even scared to be around them, that’s why at dinner time she kept her head down, also in the morning and afternoon she escaped from her parents, when she went to Fox’s (Sarah) house. Another reason why I think her parents arguments are a challenge to her is because, it causes her to be anxious. Being anxious constantly can cause anxiety. Just like when her mom left a note on the counter, telling her why she was going to be home late. Before, Joan figured out that her mom had left a note on the counter explaining why she left, she was stressing, and pondering about her mom.
