While reading an article by Judith Warner called, “The Why-Worry Generation”, in this article, Judith talks about multiple points that I tend to disagree with when it comes to my generation and their upbringing. Whether it has to do with confidence, working preference or moving back home, I think we butt heads on almost all of it. I couldn’t help but find myself getting angry, confused, and a bit irritated and then, it hit me. She’s old and jealous. She doesn’t fully understand what it’s like to be in our shoes. Adam Weinstein is a writer for Mother Jones that responded to an article posted by Tim Urban of the Huffington Post titled, “Why Generation Y Yuppies Are Unhappy.” Weinstein’s response was an article titled, “I 'm Gen Y, and I 'm Not a Special Snowflake. I 'm Broke.” Weinstein really hit home with how I think a lot of us millennials feel in regards to all the negativity towards us. I really like this next quote in particular when it comes to the topic of moving back home mainly because of, student debt and the idea of “life-long renting.” “You have no idea about student debt, underemployment, life-long renting[sic]. "Stop feeling special" is some shitty advice. I don 't feel special or entitled, just poor. The only thing that makes me special is I have more ballooning debt than you.” (Weinstein) Weinstein could not have said it any better if you ask me. I for one would not want to accept a job for an unfair wage after racking up $120,000 in debt over four years for a piece of paper that says I know what I’m talking about in my selected field. I look at it like this. Your town gets a new high school the year after you graduate. You aren’t really mad because you’re moving on to bigger and better things but, you’re jealous that the younger students are going to have better amenities than you. In return this could make their time in high school easier than yours was and that’s annoying. In retaliation, you may bully the one kid you still work with at your college job in your hometown and talk about how much easier he has it than you but, in reality, it doesn’t actually affect your
