The story “The Weapon” by Frederic Brown reminds me of the show The 100. The reasoning behind why this show reminds me of the show The 100 is because the human race was supposedly wiped out with a nuclear weapon. In this show there are survivors up in space and they send down people to check to see if Earth is survivable. In both of these stories there is some kind of problem with nuclear warfare and the scientists are the reasoning behind the mass destruction that is to come in the future or already happened like in The 100. The protagonist from “The Weapon” Dr. Graham also reminds of the protagonist Walter White from Breaking Bad. They are both obsessed with science and make immoral decisions. For example, Walter White decides to start making methamphetamine in order to have another source of income in order to pay off his cancer treatment. I understand he was trying to make a point but it was a very risky decision he made. An innocent life could have possibly been taken. Niemand felt this was the only way he could change Dr. Graham’s mind and he decides to target the most precious thing to him, his son Harry. The author decides to create suspense by having a mentally challenged by hold a revolver in his hand which created a conspiracy in our minds on whether or not Dr. Graham will make the right decision and learn his lesson. Hence, this decision may have been rather harsh but it did get Dr. Graham to reconsider and possibly change his mind about what he will do with the weapon. I believe what Niemand did was barbaric but strangely I feel I would have also chosen to do what Niemand did.
