Merriam Webster’s dictionary meaning of intelligence was “The ability to to learn or understand or to deal with new or trying situations”. One man who fits that description is Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson used is intelligence to change the world as we know it. Thomas Jefferson was a genius and widely regarded to be the most intelligent president in America (Marshall). Thomas Jefferson used his undeniable intellect to change the course of this country and the world that we live in.

One way that Thomas Jefferson used his intelligence to change the world was by writing the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 (Marshall). John Adams wanted Thomas Jefferson to write the Declaration of Independence because of one reason (Marshall) . Thomas Jefferson wrote the document that would direct our country for the next 200+ years. This important document continues to shape our country and our lives until today. And all the ideas and dreams that Thomas Jefferson had way back then are still alive today. The Declaration of Independence was not the only accomplishment of Thomas Jefferson's keen mind.

He also wrote the Virginia Statute in 1777 (Marshall). The reason why Thomas Jefferson wrote the Virginia Statute was because it was a statement about both freedom and of conscience and the principle of separation of church and a state (Molineaux). Thomas Jefferson served as a secretary of the state under Washington and he was fighting with the secretary of treasury Alexander Hamilton over the vision of a centralized national bank (Onuf).
