She is trying to continue combating but there is a moment where she cannot keep her battle and suddenly give up. The author states that “She was furious. She had been on the defensive before but now she attacked. Tried to get off her father’s lap and fly at me while tears of defeat blinded her eyes” (1236). The doctor exclaims that “she was furious” and “defensive” to show how the girl feels about the situation that she is going through. Also, the author says “fly at me” to show that the girl finally trusts in him. Matilda already know that she can let the doctor does his work. Furthermore, the doctor uses the word “tears” to show that she finally gives up, Matilda is trying to talk with him about what she is feeling.
The doctor is using force to show how the protection of the parents to their child, are affecting her. The parents are causing the death of their child because they do not want to use the force. The parents’ decision of keep the force out is bringing more pressure for Matilda.
