The U.S. Government were busy in the 60’s with problems like African-American rights movement, Gay rights movement, assassination of both Kennedy and MLK, and Peace Movements. The war was just another problem for the U.S. Government to solve. The U.S. had way many more problems on our own soil than the war itself. There is no date to be found on the piece. This piece contains three male soldiers and one or two wounded soldiers on the ground, while there is two men in the chopper. The scene is taken place outdoors in the jungle but there is enough open land to land a chopper for EVAC, for the wounded soldiers to be taken to the hospital. Since it is in the jungle the artist piece is densely populated with thick brush: trees, bushes, plants, etc. The piece shows a daytime setting about mid-day. The one soldier is running towards the down-coming chopper in a hurry with a sense of urgency and the one man coming out of the chopper door looks to be coming out with urgency and concern trying to load the wounded as fast as possible to save their lives. On the other hand the other soldier looks to be tending a wounded soldier with concern. While the last soldier is on one knee, “watching the men’s six.” Madden illustrates the men’s emotions by their body language. The focal point to the piece of art is the soldier running to the helicopter. The artist brings me to see this because it is right in the middle of the drawing, both the soldier and helicopter. The lighting shows that the brighter part is in the open land, while the darkness is in the jungle where it is dense with the canopy covering the jungle floor.
