On October 5th, 1789 the women who were angry about the high prices of bread stormed the Versailles. The women stormed around 12 miles to get to Versailles. As the women started to march to Versailles they took a route through the main city, the reason for this was so that other people would join them on their march. The mob of people wanted the government officials to give them bread, and weapons. The reason that the people would want bread is because it was a very large part of the French diet at the time, and the government raised the price of the bread and the people did not like that. Once the mob reached Versailles the mob focused their anger at Marie Antoinette. French Guards were sent to protect the royal family from the mob. Once the mob reached the royal family the women demanded that they see the Queen. The mob wanted to kill her, but instead they demanded that bread was given to the people at the palace.
