“No one can attain any degree of holiness without God working in his life, but just as surely no one will attain it without effort on his own part” (Bridges 1978). In Jerry Bridges book, The Pursuit of Holiness, Jerry explains how to make a Christian’s life more holy. Through chapter 1, Jerry explains why Christians need holiness in their everyday lives. He explains that to find holiness we must search the Bible because the Bible has all the answers. The Bible is the spoken truth from God. As in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (NIV). Bridges focuses on how our “attitude” about sin is about us than God. Chapter 2 talks about the holiness of God. Bridges makes a good point where we as Christians are called to be like God, and that holiness “is nothing less than conformity to the character of God” (Bridges, 30). For God holiness is like one of his many superpowers. As God is always holy then we should have no fear that what he does for us is perfect and always right. Hebrews 12:14 says, “Make every effort…to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord” (NIV). Disobedience as Bridges discusses later on is a great deal to God.
