Snowden leaked confirmation that “the U.S. government, without obtaining any court warrants, routinely collects the phone logs of tens of millions, perhaps hundreds of millions, of Americans, who have no links to terrorism whatsoever” (Cassidy). Also leaked was the fact the the N.S.A can access vast amounts of user data from U.S based Internet companies, meaning that they can receive a great deal of information about many Americans and keep it for as long as they want. While leaking this information has caused many to believe that Snowden is a traitor, he believes that he was doing the right thing because as he says,“I don’t want to live in a society that does these sort of things...I do not want to live in a world where everything I do and say is recorded. That is not something I am willing to support or live under” (Cassidy). These leaks caused no harm to the American public, on the contrary it allowed society to become more aware of the unconstitutional activities that some government agencies partake in.
