An example of positive resistance would be when there was a march for gay marriage rights to be approved in California, about 2,000 people were in the march that took up as many as six blocks. The protesters allowed traffic to flow as the protest went on throughout the day. The protesters shared their message through signs such as “hate is not hot” and “we will not give up.” This demonstrates that you don't have to be violent to have your voice heard. During the protest three people were arrested. Students all around America heard about this. This lets students know that they shouldn't be afraid to stand up for what they believe in.

For an example we learn about the civil rights movement and how they did not use violence to get racial equality. Peaceful resistance to laws are positively impacting students and a free society, by showing us that violence is not the answer in order to have our voices heard. Chris Simkins from Voice of America (VOA) news says that “A major factor in the success of the movement was the strategy of protesting for equal rights without using violence.” He also pointed out that people will learn from others on how to handle the situation that they are in, for example “King's non-violent movement was inspired by the teachings of Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi.” Without the example of Gandhi’s nonviolent protest Martin Luther King Jr. might have acted on his situation
