Communication has become a high priority in nearly all efficient companies. Lack of communication is poor communication and it creates a dismal work environment. In the healthcare environment, if team members do not communicate successfully, patient safety and patient care can suffer. Without effective communication facilities are susceptible to medical errors and chaos. Healthcare team members should view past their individual interest and departments to the big picture, which is the patient’s overall care. First, it is not lead by administration. Second, it is interpreted as dependable and credible. Third, it is primarily used to fulfill personal work related matters. The grapevine can be a very effective form of communication and fosters relationship between individuals and within little groups. However, decisions made by certain parties can appear secretive and inconsistent. In addition, communication about certain subject matters may not reach all of the necessary parties involved through the grapevine.
